The American Genetic Association grants awards each year to its members for support of special events that advance the mission of AGA, particularly to support students to attend the event.
Eligible events include specialized workshops and short courses in topical areas of organismal genetics and genomics, but any event relevant to AGA’s purpose will be considered. Events that could lead to Journal of Heredity articles will receive special consideration.
Since the inception of the SEA awards, support has been provided for numerous workshops and short courses. Preference is given to supporting subsidies or grants for participation to students and postdocs.
The SEA committee noted that requests for support for short courses presenting current topics and/or recent advances in conservation genetics/genomics have grown and that these extend the impact and recognition of AGA internationally. They also noted that workshops and conferences are also requested for support.
The committee found that eight applications were aligned with the mission of the AGA and were able to offer full/partial funding for each applications.
